We are pleased to announce that we have joined the international organization Species360.
Species360, formerly ISIS (International Species Information System), was founded in 1974, It is an American non-profit non-governmental membership organization that maintains an international animal database, ZIMS (Zoological Information Management System), as there are five modules for different types of management. Currently, more than 1,300 professional organizations (zoos, aquariums, research facilities, rehabilitation centres) from 102 countries around the world are registered in Species360, as well as 50 Association of Zoos and Aquariums. ZIMS for Husbandry has 10,377,000 individual animal records registered, amounting to up to 23,000 species.
ZIMS is a useful tool for collecting and optimizing the exchange of medical, behavioural, breeding, scientific and other information about the zoological collections of members of the organization. The ZIMS database is aimed at creating conditions for the «transparent traffic» of animals in zoological collections and zoological institutions.
We are very grateful to Natalya Gozak from the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) for mediating the collaboration with Species360.
We became the first Ukrainian wildlife rehabilitation centre, which got the ability to provide information to this important database and thus became part of the international community. Well, we are sure that our colleagues-rehabilitation specialists will be more decisive and will also reach this point.
