We lived this year together with you. This year there were many events. Newly rescued animals, events, acquaintances and cooperation. Our project developed qualitatively despite the difficult times thanks to friends. We installed a donated LAV refrigerator where we store food.
We sent the grey wolf Dora to the Arcturos Rehabilitation Center in Greece with the support of IFAW and Wild Animal Rescue. We rescued the wolf-dog hybrid Nymphadora together with the NGO Step to Animals and LAV and carried out veterinary control together with the Inna Vasylkovska Clinic. We completed a new enclosure for Chada with the support of UAnimals, a new den for Synochok with the support of PlayDuck, and boxes and transport cages with the support of IFAW. We provided temporary shelter for a female bear from a war-torn menagerie in the Donetsk oblast, which was rescued by Wild Animal Rescue and is now with our colleagues from the Bear sanctuary — Domazhyr (Four Paws Int.). With the support of IFAW, we became the first rehabilitation centre in Ukraine to join SPECIES 360. Moreover, thanks to the integration with IUCN, all data, including ours, will now become part of the overall picture of the state of rare species populations and help save them.
We were co-organizers of a conference for rehabilitation centres in Ukraine and, thanks to you, we distributed among them the translation of the Methodological Recommendations for the Rehabilitation of Wild Animals, provided by the National Wildlife Rehabilitators Association (NWRA) and the International Wildlife Rehabilitation Council (IWRC), where we edited and adapted them. These recommendations are available on our website for wildlife rehabilitators. We were also happy to help organize Wild Welfare webinars on the welfare of wild animals. We were very pleased to visit the Bear sanctuary — Domazhyr and conduct training for staff on bear training. Thanks to the support of TierarztpraxisSaLu Gmbh and Examion Gmbh and the equipment provided, we have qualitatively increased the level of our daily care for the well-being of rescued animals in our rehabilitation centre, as well as helping friendly animal protection organizations.
This year, our team has undergone two trainings on Tactical Medicine with the Soloma Cats organization. We also participated in scientific environmental conferences and webinars.
This year has also become very difficult for our team, because two of our employees, the bear keeper and the director of the Foundation, joined the Defense Forces of Ukraine. We are very worried about them and are waiting for their return.
Nevertheless, we have conducted a season of educational excursions and it was a great pleasure for us to show our work and tell the stories of animals.
We have also begun preparing and publishing excellent and thorough materials on various interesting topics on our website, in particular in cooperation with professional journalists Olena Struk and Dmytro Simonov. You can already get acquainted with them on our website. And of course, we were happy to cooperate with the media — Biodiversity Magazine, Vanity Fair, A. Ptushkin’s project “We, our pets and war”, Zoodiversity and others. Incredible photo portraits were taken for us by Darina Matasova.
Our constant current needs and development opportunities are covered by people who become remote guardians, monthly donors, make donations and also visit our excursions. And this year we survived thanks to LAV and PlayDuck, who really created a reliable level of minimum security for the project.
Thanks to your support, Myhasyk, Lyubochka, Synochok, Chada and Nymphadora, as well as the cats and dogs of the Shelter enjoy life — they receive healthy and tasty food, necessary veterinary care and care. Your support is for food for animals, utility bills, and the salaries of our keepers. We save animals and provide them with a happy life every day thanks to you. We are happy when we see your likes, comments, reposts and messages on our Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, and in the mail.
We wish you a happy New Year and hope that you will be with us next year. We hug you!
