Today, our team successfully completed an ambitious veterinary task.
Our dear Lyubochka has obsessive-compulsive disorder, which, unfortunately, progressed over time despite our efforts. Last year, our colleagues from the Department of Reproductive Management at the Leibniz-Institut für Zoo- und Wildtierforschung (IZW) helped us diagnose the cause of the disorder and link it to a violation of the secretion of sex hormones. We received a recommendation to remove the gonads, namely the ovaries, from the bear. We have been preparing hard for nine months, and today we performed the first laparoscopic ovariectomy on an adult bear in Ukraine. Lyubochka will have up to two weeks of postoperative rehabilitation ahead of her. Still, most importantly, the operation was successful and without complications.
We are infinitely grateful to: the wonderful specialists from the Veterinary Hospital «Genesis» for their golden hands, the Veterinary Clinic of Inna Vasylkovska for the anaesthetic and organizational support of the operation, our dear friend Mark Golkel and the veterinarians from Four Paws Intl. for valuable advice and video materials, the Wild Animal Rescue Center for the opportunity to work in their veterinary operating room, our German friends from Tierarztpraxis SaLu and Examion Gmbh for the donated X-ray equipment, the Italian animal protection organization LAV and the Ukrainian PlayDuck Charity Foundation for financial support. And we thank all of you, our dear donors, because thanks to your help this became possible ❤️
